Elections

The United Democratic Forces of Belarus (Russian:Объединённые демократические силы; Belarusian:Аб'яднаныя дэмакратычныя сілы Беларусі) is a coalition of political parties participating as the main opposition group during the 2006 presidential election. The group chose Alexander Milinkevich as their candidate to see if he could defeat the incumbent Alexander Lukashenko, the authoritarian president since 1994.

He won 6.0% of the vote by the official data. However Belarus opposition and Western countries have not accepted the official results because they believe that elections were rigged. Only Belarus authorities and Russia believe that the elections were fair.

Currently the United Civic Party and Belarusian United Left Party "Fair World" are the main members of the coalition. Partyja BNF keeps its membership in the coalition, however concentrates more on the newly created coalition of conservative parties -the Belarusian Independence Bloc.
